Around the league

Some interesting news from around the league:

– The Twins have acquired SS J.J. Hardy form the Brewers in exchange for  OF Carlos Gomez. Seems like a good deal for both sides. The Twins need a shortstop with Orlando Cabrera set to hit the free agent market and the Brewers were looking for someone to replace Mike Cameron (and wanted to create room for top SS prospect Alcides Escobar). They may not be the biggest names, but Hardy definitely has some pop in his bat and Gomez is an above average defender.

-No surprise here, the Diamondbacks exercised their club option on Brandon Webb as did the Phillies with Cliff Lee. They are owed $8.5 MM and $9 MM respectively, which is more than a bargain.

-Potential Hank Blalock suitors just got some bad news. He will be represented by agent Scott Boras.

-The White Sox have bought out Jermaine Dye‘s option for 2010, making him a Type A free agent.

-Finally, The Blue Jays seem to be interested in….wait for it….wait for it….JOHN HALAMA!
