Blue Jays to acquire Brandon Morrow

According to Ken Rosenthal, the Jays are set to acquire P Brandon Morrow from the Mariners for P Brandon League and a prospect. Morrow, 25, has a 3.96 ERA, 9.3 K/9, and 5.7 BB/9 (yuck) in his 197.6-inning career. He’s a hard throwing righty who was originally drafted 5th overall by the Mariners in ’06. Since coming to the bigs in ’07, he’s been shuffling back and forth between the ‘pen and the rotation. He has a fairly significant injury history, including all the scary ones like shoulder and elbow ailments.

Seems like a swap of two dispensable players. Brandon League had a lot of hype when he came up, due in large part to his ability to crank up the dial close to triple digits, but he never turned that potential into results. Sounds a lot like Morrow. This deal doesn’t really excite or dissapoint me, but we’ll see who that prospect is.

  1. The Jays lost like six close games where Brandon came in and gave up 3+ runs in an inning. Good riddance.
